‘Changing Ireland’ welcomed Minister of State for Community Development, Joe O’Brien, to Moyross this week as our publication celebrates 21 years publishing news from communities around the country. Over the years, the magazine has featured community initiatives, volunteers and activists from every county - from Erris Head to Wexford town, from Dublin to Derry and Kerry - and the minister commended the magazine for its coverage and its “track record” and for being “at times critical”.

Last Friday, ‘Changing Ireland’ sent out two students Ella and Caoimhe, who are on placement with us, to ask one questions: “What do you love about Moyross?” In less than half an hour they returned with five short and cheery interviews, all with women as it happens.

Until recently, Moyross Youth Academy (MYA) was one of Limerick’s under-the-radar success stories.

Devotion to the community emerged as one of the strongest features during Moyross's #BuildOurRoad campaign.

The community of Moyross, Limerick, has launched a campaign to #BuildOurRoad on social media and across all political parties. It calls on the Government to honour a commitment in its programme for government to finish the road - already begun - that would help end the community’s ghettoisation.

The Community Development Programme, first established in 1990, is to be absorbed into a new unnamed programme that also incorporates the Local Development and Social Inclusion Programme.
